Two questions come up before almost every order. First, the difference: a boot liner is a rigid moulded tray with a raised lip; a boot mat is flat, usually textile, or reversible with a velour side and a rubber side. If you carry anything wet or dirty, take the liner; if you only want to guard against scuffs, the mat is enough. Second, the boot floor: many models – the Tiguan 2, Golf 5 and Golf 6 or the Arteon, for example – have a height-adjustable floor with two settings. The lowered and the raised position take different parts with different OE numbers, because both the floor area and the lip height change. How can I tell whether a boot liner is genuine?

Genuine parts also carry that number moulded into the underside, usually next to the manufacturer logo. Copies quote the number only as a cross-reference.
Can the liner stay in the car when the rear seats are folded down?
Yes. The liner sits loose on the boot floor and is not bolted in, so the rear bench folds as normal. It will then cover only the original boot area, not the extra load space created above the folded backrests.
