A modern windscreen is strongly curved and shaped in several radii. The genuine blade is matched to that geometry: length, spring profile and contact pressure are chosen so the rubber sits on the glass across the full sweep. Universal blades only approximate that curve – which shows first at the edge of the screen and around the camera and sensor area, where streaks stay behind. Then there is the fitting: every manufacturer uses its own arm attachment, and a genuine blade needs no adapter kit – the kit that lifts an aftermarket blade a few millimetres and changes the contact pressure.

Buying guide: aero or bracket, front or rear
The first difference is the design. Conventional bracket wipers spread the pressure through a metal linkage, aero blades (flat blades) through a continuous spring rail under a spoiler. Which design belongs on your car is decided by the manufacturer, not by taste: an aero blade on an arm built for bracket wipers sits unevenly. The second point is the position. Front blades are replaced as a set, while the rear wiper is a separate, much shorter part with its own number. In the end the OE number decides: it is on the old blade or on the arm and identifies the position beyond doubt – 5G1998002A on the Golf 7, for example, or 8W1998002 on the Audi A4 and A5.

Which wiper blades fit the Kia Ceed?
That depends on the generation. For the Ceed 2012–2018 we stock the genuine front blades L983FK2614L0 and L983FK2418L0, and for 2006–2010 the version L983FK2418L9. At the rear, 98850 J7500 or 98850 A2000 is used depending on the build. If in doubt, compare the number on the old blade – it is more reliable than the model year alone.
Is there a rear wiper for the Kia Picanto?
Yes. On the Picanto the rear wiper is a separate position and is not replaced together with the front set. We stock the genuine rear blades 98850 A4000 and 98850 G6000 in aero design. Both are much shorter than the front blades, so check which of the two numbers is fitted to your car.
What is the difference between aero blades and bracket wipers?
Bracket wipers have a visible metal linkage that spreads the contact pressure over several points. Aero blades are flat blades: a continuous spring rail inside the rubber with a spoiler on top that presses the blade onto the glass at speed. Aero sits lower, wipes more evenly and is the factory design on most newer vehicles.
How do I know whether 5G1998002A is the right wiper for my Golf 7?
The OE number is the decisive criterion. 5G1998002A is the genuine front aero set for the windscreen of the VW Golf 7 and Golf 8. You will usually find the number stamped on the old blade or via the parts catalogue for your VIN. If the number matches, length, fitting and contact pressure match automatically.
Is there a rear wiper for the Golf 8?
For the Golf 8 Variant we stock the genuine rear wiper arm 3G9955704E, which is identical on the Passat Variant and the Touran. Before ordering, check whether the arm itself is faulty or only the blade – they are two separate parts.
Expert tips
- Always replace wipers in pairs. A new and an old blade produce two different wipe patterns, and you will notice it at the first rain shower.
- Degrease the screen with glass cleaner before fitting. A new blade on a film of wax and insect residue will smear from day one – and the blade gets the blame it does not deserve.
- In winter, never force the arms up while the blade is frozen to the glass. That damages the spring in the arm, and then you need the whole arm rather than just the blade.
- Order by the OE number on the old blade, not by model year alone. The Kia Ceed uses different wipers for 2006–2010 and 2012–2018, and even within one generation there are two rear wiper numbers.
