Genuine VW Golf 5 and Golf 6 Tow Ball for Detachable Towbar – Lockable Ball Neck
Part number: 1K0803882A
Genuine VW Accessories®
This genuine VW tow ball makes the detachable towbar of your VW Golf 5 or Golf 6 complete again – for example if the old ball neck has been lost or damaged, or the keys are missing. The original part with part number 1K0803882A is intended for the Golf 5 (1K, model years 2007 to 2009), the Golf 6 (5K, model years 2009 to 2013) and the Golf Plus (model years 2009 to 2014): no replica, but a genuine VW accessory.
The tow ball is lockable, and two keys are included. A protective cap with VW logo covers the ball when no trailer is attached. The part number 1K0 803 882 A and the maximum nose weight of 75 kg are embossed on the ball neck. The towing capacity is stated as 2000 kg – however, the permissible towing capacity and nose weight in your Golf's vehicle registration document always apply.
The advantage of the detachable solution: when you do not need the towbar, the tow ball stays removed in the boot – and your Golf keeps its clean rear view. Genuine VW quality, very durable and hardly comparable with replicas.

Frequently asked questions
Does the tow ball fit my VW Golf 5 or Golf 6?
The genuine tow ball with part number 1K0803882A is intended for the VW Golf 5 (1K), model years 2007 to 2009, the Golf 6 (5K), model years 2009 to 2013, and the Golf Plus, model years 2009 to 2014. Ideally, compare the part number with your previous tow ball or have the fit checked using your vehicle identification number (VIN).
Is this a complete towbar?
No. You receive the detachable tow ball (ball neck) with lock, two keys and protective cap. Cross member, receiver and electrical kit are not included – the tow ball is meant for an existing detachable towbar.
Which towing capacity and nose weight apply?
A towing capacity of 2000 kg is stated for the tow ball, and a maximum nose weight of 75 kg is embossed on the ball neck. The permissible values in your Golf's vehicle registration document are always decisive – the lower value applies in each case.
How many keys are included?
Two keys for the lock on the tow ball are included – so you always have a spare key.
How can I tell that it is a genuine VW part?
The VW part number 1K0 803 882 A is embossed on the ball neck, and the protective cap carries the VW logo. This allows you to match the part clearly to your vehicle.
Expert tips
- Check before buying whether your Golf already has a detachable towbar with a matching receiver – the tow ball only replaces the detachable ball neck.
- Put the protective cap on when no trailer is attached and keep the ball and locking mechanism clean – this keeps the tow ball in good condition for a long time.
- Store the removed tow ball dry and secured in the boot so that it does not slide around while driving.
- Keep the spare key separate from the car – so you have a replacement at hand quickly if one gets lost.
